Enzo Camacho and Ami Lien’s sculptural work takes its form from devotional Catholic altarpieces with doors that open to reveal narrative scenes. The imagery in the work on view here reflects more than one hundred years of US colonial involvement in the Philippines alongside Filipino worker and peasant resistance. Scenes range from a 1901 uprising during the Philippine–American War to the 2025 crash of a US spy plane that killed a water buffalo in a rural province. Each side of the work is on view on alternating weeks.

The collages on view nearby grew out of the artists’ research into resistance movements in the Philippines, especially those tied to farming and land rights. Like the sculpture, they incorporate handmade paper created from plant matter and recycled materials from rural areas that are then combined with watercolors.
