Mo Costello (she/her)

14

Mo Costello’s photographs picture the traces of social and political activity. Staples on roadside telephone poles throughout Georgia hint at flyers formerly affixed there. Shattered glass outside the MARTA transit station in downtown Atlanta quietly registers a moment of resistance.

One thread of Costello’s practice involves the ongoing circulation of readers. Costello’s readers combine original prints with reproductions—including content from local archives, essays, coupons, and flyers—and other found materials gathered from the artist’s immediate environment. Costello assembles and then distributes the readers at gas stations, pharmacies, and other businesses in and around Athens, Georgia.
