Johanna Unzueta makes drawings that share qualities with textiles and sculpture, suffusing paper with natural pigments including indigo that she first encountered in Guatemala and tints extracted from berries that Unzueta discovered in a friend’s garden during the pandemic. Seeking a way to present the two-sided drawings in three dimensions, the artist took inspiration from tabletop tent signs used in restaurants.
