Milton Avery

1885–1965

Introduction

Milton Clark Avery (; March 7, 1885 – January 3, 1965) was an American modern painter. Born in Altmar, New York, he moved to Connecticut in 1898 and later to New York City. He was the husband of artist Sally Michel Avery and the father of artist March Avery.

Introduction

Avery's birth date has typically been recorded as 1893, however a federal census report from 1900 lists his birth date as 1885. Election district records of 1892 for the town of Albion, record him as being seven years old.
