Andrew Roberts embraces the zombie as an allegorical figure and as a stand-in for the artist, who situates himself “as a Latino and queer person confronted by a crossfire geopolitical war where bodies and identities similar to mine are treated as disposable.” As Roberts has explained: “After NAFTA came to fruition, recycled products spawned by the U.S. entertainment industry crossed down to us in the form of low-resolution television reruns and cheaper preowned video game consoles, all while Tijuana rose as the main pathway for the distribution of illegal arms and drugs. This atmosphere had an everlasting effect on my childhood memories, where cartoons began to mix with the brutality shown daily on the news, and computer shooting games became indistinguishable from my own reality.”
