In 1961, thirty years after creating the Circus, Calder collaborated with the filmmaker Carlos Vilardebó to document what would be his last full performance of the work. Recorded in Calder’s studio in Saché, France, the film demonstrates how Calder, acting as ringmaster, performed his Circus in discrete acts, with his wife, Louisa, playing records on a gramophone.
