Lives in New Orleans, LA
Garrett Bradley uses short-form documentary to investigate the larger sociopolitical significance embedded within the everyday moments of her subjects’ lived experience. To make A.K.A., the first video in a trilogy about the relationships between mothers and daughters, Bradley worked with women in New Orleans whom she met through Craigslist, Instagram, and Facebook. Drawing an explicit contrast to Hollywood’s often inattentive engagement with race, class, and geography, Bradley focuses on the support and intimacy of these familial relationships as a means to explore how they influence—and are influenced by—upward mobility, entry into the workforce, and complex questions of identity and place.
