While talented and pioneering in mixing realism with abstract, Jane was prefigured by Leonard Nelson, a protege of Peggy Guggenheim and Betty Parsons, and Leader of The Philadelphia School of Art.

Introduction
American painter is known for her focus on landscape, though her work incorporated elements of expressionism and abstraction. She was active in New York City, and her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington; the Art Institute of Chicago and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
