Neil Welliver
1929 – 2005

Introduction

Neil Gavin Welliver (July 22, 1929 – April 5, 2005) was an American modern artist, best known for his large-scale landscape paintings inspired by the deep woods near his home in Maine. One of his sons, Titus Welliver, later became a successful actor.

Introduction

in the mid-1960s Welliver began painting large scale landscapes featuring female nudes inspired by the Maine landscape. He switched to pure landscape in the mid-1970s; these works are noted for their strong shadows, clarity, dappled light, and compositional structure.
