2022 Whitney Pride Events

Celebrate Pride at the Whitney with an inclusive weekend of free parties, history tours, art-making activities, and more for LGBTQ+ visitors and allies of all ages. The festivities spill out into the neighborhood—we’re transforming Gansevoort Street into a pedestrian-only green space. Relax on the Whitney Lawn and enjoy family-friendly activities, including hands-on artmaking, performances, photo booths, and giveaways. Discover the queer history of the Meatpacking District in a walking tour with our education team, dance the night away at a Radical Joy Ball inspired by New York’s iconic ballroom culture, and get creative with artists featured in the 2022 Whitney Biennial. 

Whitney Pride! takes place from Thursday, June 9, to Sunday, June 12, and is part of the Museum’s ongoing commitment to support LGBTQ+ artists and communities and offer an inclusive space for all to gather and enjoy American art. Art History From Home: Queer Belonging
June 9 | 12 pm 
Looking at a range of artists, the session will examine the way art has been a powerful tool in documenting and building queer communities.

Radical Joy Ball with ADAPT
June 9 | 5–6 pm
The Radical Joy Ball celebrates unapologetically the pride of self-expression. At this event, we will highlight disability and LGBTQ+ pride. 

Gender Discard Party with Nayland Blake
June 9 | 7–10 pm
In collaboration with Biennial artist, Nayland Blake, the Whitney Museum celebrates pride and LGBTQ+ communities with a free, after-hours event.

Biennial Queer Teen Night
June 10 | 4–7 pm
LGBTQ+ youth and allies are invited to join Biennial artist Andrew Roberts and Youth Insights Leaders for a celebration of pride at the Whitney Museum!

Pride on the Whitney Lawn
June 11 | 11 am–6 pm
To honor our LGBTQ+ community, families, and allies, the Whitney will host a day-long celebration of Pride outside the Museum on Gansevoort Street. Artmaking and poetry workshops with Biennial artist collective A Gathering of Tribes will be offered until 3 pm. Pride-inspired light bites and drink offerings will be available for purchase from Union Square Events. 

Pride on the Whitney Lawn*
June 12 | 11 am–6 pm
Enjoy special giveaways and floral installations, and take in the L.E.A.F. Festival of Flowers throughout the Meatpacking District. Pride-inspired light bites and drink offerings will be available for purchase from Union Square Events.
*Due to inclement weather Gansevoort Street will no longer be sodded.

Queer History Walks
Select Weekends, June–September
Join us for a free walking tour that explores the rich queer history of the neighborhood surrounding the Whitney Museum.

Please note the following streets will be closed to all vehicular traffic from Thursday, June 9, until Sunday, June 12:

• Ninth Avenue from Horatio Street to 14th Street
• Gansevoort Street from Hudson Street to Tenth Avenue
• Little West 12th Street from Ninth Avenue to Tenth Avenue
• West 13th Street from Hudson Street to Tenth Avenue
• Washington Street from 14th Street to Horatio Street

Please note the following drop-off locations for accessing the Whitney via car or Access-a-Ride on Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12:

• West 14th Street, westbound, just west of Ninth Avenue
• West 14th Street, westbound, at Washington Street
• West 14th Street, eastbound, between Ninth Avenue and Washington Street
• Hudson Street from 13th Street to 14th Street (southbound)
• Hudson Street, Gansevoort Street to 13th Street (southbound)
