Sound Bath by Lavender Suarez | Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist

Oct 16, 2020

Meditate on the exhibition Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist in this sound bath, performed by Lavender Suarez.

Agnes Pelton (1881–1961) was a visionary symbolist who depicted the spiritual reality she experienced in moments of meditative stillness. Art for her was a discipline through which she gave form to her vision of a higher consciousness within the universe. Using an abstract vocabulary of curvilinear, biomorphic forms and delicate, shimmering veils of light, she portrayed her awareness of a world that lay behind physical appearances—a world of benevolent, disembodied energies animating and protecting life.

Lavender Suarez is a sound healing practitioner, artist, and educator. Lavender regularly facilitates meditation workshops and has been a featured presenter at The Rubin Museum, MoMA, Hirshhorn Museum (Washington, D.C.), The Brooklyn Public Library, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Lincoln Park Conservatory (Chicago, IL), and Wanderlust Yoga Festival. Lavender’s book Transcendent Waves about how tuning in to one’s listening skills can foster creativity will be published by Anthology Editions in December 2020.
