The Whitney is open late—just for members! Celebrate with fellow supporters and enjoy everything the Museum has to offer. In addition to gallery access, the evening includes Whitney teaching fellow-led exhibition talks, members-only dining and shopping, and more.

All members are invited to this event. The invitation is for two individuals per membership household. Members at the Dual level and above are welcome to arrive at 7 pm for early admission. Not open to corporate and reciprocal members. To join or upgrade, call (212) 570-3641.

Weaving and Astrology with Sibyl Kempson and Omie Johnson
Floor 3, Susan and John Hess Family Theater

As a prelude to her upcoming summer solstice performance, playwright, director, and performer Sibyl Kempson hosts a weaving workshop with astrologer Omie Johnson. The practice of weaving is a potent tool to reflect on the interaction between free will and fate, between personal choices and planetary cycles, between individual action and collective action. As participants work on both individual and group weaving projects, Kempson will provide guiding thoughts and Johnson will share insight into the astrological dynamics of the present moment. Kempson’s upcoming summer solstice performance is part her ongoing project at the Whitney, 12 Shouts to the Ten Forgotten Heavens.

Critical Looking Seminar: Borders and Belonging
Floor 3, Hearst Artspace

Join teaching fellow Aliza Shvarts for a discussion of borders, migration, and belonging. Works by Zoe Leonard as well as artists from the upcoming exhibition Pacha, Llaqta, Wasichay: Indigenous Space, Modern Architecture, New Art will serve as touchstones as we explore the complexities and contradictions of concepts such as “the nation” and “American.”

Exhibition Talks

Hop on one of the evening’s 15–20 minute talks highlighting collection works that were acquired out of past Whitney Biennials. Inaugurated in 1932, the Whitney’s ongoing series of Annuals and Biennials is the longest running survey of contemporary American art in the world. Since the Biennial’s inception, the Whitney has consistently acquired works from these exhibitions.

Walk left through the exhibition An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940–2017 and meet teaching fellow Joshua Lubin-Levy in the gallery titled Abuse of Power.
