Swish, Sketch, Drag: A Warhol-inspired Life Drawing Salon
Floor 3, Susan and John Hess Family Theater
7:30–9:30 pm

Join us for a life drawing class with models who are all performers in New York’s queer nightlife scene. A group of chic pen and ink drawings from the 1950s depicting friends vamping in drag serves as the touchstone for this event. The drawings provide a unique view in the semiprivate, pre-Stonewall queer milieu, and demonstrate Warhol’s sensitive understanding of self-fashioning, of self as performance. Drop in and draw for a few minutes—or longer—and stick around for surprise performances!

Instructor: Jacqueline Cedar
Models: Daphne Always, Blvck Laé D., Wo Chan aka Pearl Harbor, Maxxx Pleasure

Seminar Discussion: I Shot Andy Warhol—Labor, Feminism, and the Problem of Spectacle
Hearst Artspace
7:30 and 8:45 pm

Join teaching fellows Ayanna Dozier and Aliza Shvarts for a participatory discussion examining Andy Warhol through the lenses of labor and feminist critique. Using the mischaracterization of Valerie Solanas in the news as a starting point, Dozier and Shvarts will explore the gendered dynamics of agency surrounding authorship and recognition, along with other questions raised by Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again.
