This thematic virtual tour led by Jane Panetta, curator and director of the collection, takes the architecture and surroundings of the Whitney as its guiding threads. The Museum’s outdoor terraces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and plaza-like entrance evoke ideas of transparency and interconnection. Touching on current and past installations that have engaged these spaces—by artists such as Yuji Agematsu, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Mary Heilmann, Virginia Overton, and others—the talk will consider how our relationship with art shifts when we experience it as intrinsically linked with the building's architecture and urban fabric beyond the Museum’s walls.

Jane Panetta joined the Whitney full-time in 2013 and was part of the curatorial team for America Is Hard to See, the 2015 inaugural collection exhibition in the Museum’s downtown home. Her past exhibitions include Fast Forward: Paintings from the 1980s, Juan Antonio Olivares: Moléculas, and the 2019 Whitney Biennial, co-curated with Rujeko Hockley. Panetta has served as director of the collection since 2019.
