Whitney Contemporaries members are invited to select one of four evenings exploring the works of David Wojnarowicz or the films of Andy Warhol.

Insider Focus: Cynthia Carr on David Wojnarowicz
January 26, 7:30 pm
February 4, 7:30 pm

During this special event Cynthia Carr, author of the acclaimed biography Fire in the Belly: The Life and Times of David Wojnarowicz (2012), will share archival images as well as reproductions of Wojnarowicz’s art work to introduce his career, spotlighting his contributions to the artistic life of downtown Manhattan, the evolution of his activism and the political messages embedded in his art, and his friendship with photographer Peter Hujar.

Pop on the Silver Screen: Perspectives from the Andy Warhol Film Project
February 5, 6:30 pm
February 10, 6:30 pm

In this talk, Claire K. Henry will share key insights from her years working with the Andy Warhol Film Project to illuminate how Warhol’s films elaborate and develop these concerns, including Warhol’s interest in commonplace, everyday actions and objects and his fascination with celebrity.

This event is open to Whitney Contemporaries plus one guest. Contemporaries will receive invitations and may select one program date to attend.
