Floors 3, 7, Education Center

Join us to celebrate Edward Hopper’s birthday on July 22, 2023. New Yorkers of all ages will enjoy events and activities at the Whitney Museum (99 Gansevoort Street) and the Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center (82 North Broadway, Nyack). 


Whitney Museum

The Whitney Museum is located at 99 Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District near the neighborhood where Hopper lived and worked for much of his life. 

Artmaking
Hopper-related artmaking for families with kids of all ages in the Museum's Open Studio from 11 am–3 pm. 

Works on View
Several Hopper works are on view at the Whitney—including Early Sunday Morning—as part of the Museum's permanent collection display on Floor 7. The Museum always has Hoppers on view, as it has about 3,000 of the artist's works in its collection, more than any other museum in the world. 

City Sites
As part of our recent landmark exhibition, Edward Hopper's New York, we created a map of New York City locations that Hopper painted. Use the map to tour those locations. 

Whitney Hopper Ride
In partnership with the Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center, OutCycling, and the Meatpacking Business Improvement District we have organized an approximately 60-mile round-trip bike ride from the Whitney Museum to the Hopper House in Nyack. Registration is required and availability is limited. Learn more.


Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center

The Edward Hopper House Museum and Study Center is the site of Hopper's childhood home in Nyack. 

Free Family Day in the Garden
Free Family Day in the Hopper House Museum Garden will feature artmaking, birthday games, neighborhood walking tours, and snacks from 1–3 pm. 

Hopper Nyack Walking Tour
Explore Hopper's neighborhood via a self-guided walking tour.

Art Lab
The Museum's Hop Into Art Lab will be open from 1–5 pm giving visitors of all ages the opportunity to drop-in and create.

Hopper House
From 1–5 pm explore the interior of Hopper's home including a look at his bicycle from 1897. Advance tickets are suggested. Members and kids 12 and under are always free.
