Introduction

Yasuhiro Wakabayashi (若林 康宏, Wakabayashi Yasuhiro) (3 November 1930 – 15 August 2021), known professionally as Hiro (ヒロ), was a Japanese-born American commercial photographer. He was known for his fashion and still life photography from the mid-1960s onward.

Introduction

Hiro came to the United States in the 1950s and began his career as apprentice to Richard Avedon. He soon began working for Harper's Bazaar as staff photographer. He was named photographer of the year by the American Society of Magazine Photographers in 1969. He is known for his fashion photography and still lifes that juxtapose the mundane and the unexpected.
