In Memory:
Cecil Weekes, 1956-2013
Jan 30, 2014

Before his unexpected passing in August, Cecil Joseph Weekes served as a guard at the Whitney Museum for thirty-three years. His mother Patsy, who also worked as a guard, introduced him to the Whitney family in 1980. In the years that followed, he became an integral member of the community and a close friend to many who work here.

This video pays tribute to Cecil in the words of his colleagues, and documents a memorial service, held on October 25, 2013, in which the Museum dedicated the purchase of a permanent collection work by Elizabeth Catlett in his honor.
