Marcela Guererro: My name is Marcela Guerrero, I’m the Jennifer Rubio Associate Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

no existe un mundo poshuracán is an exhibition that looks at the last five years of artistic production after Hurricane Maria. The exhibition takes stock of all the environmental events that have happened, but also political and social events and the compounded effects of all these events in the artistic production of Puerto Rico.

The exhibition looks at a wide range of artistic productions and ideas. I don’t want to represent the hurricane in figurative terms but more as the aftermath, as what Maria exacerbated as a consequence. We have artists who are thinking about the failed infrastructures in Puerto Rico. We have artists who are thinking about ecology and the landscape and how the hurricane transformed the landscape, or even memories that artists have of the landscape, how artists are processing grief and thinking about the loss that happened as a consequence of the hurricane.
