Introduction to Whitney Biennial 2014

Narrator: Welcome to the Whitney! Every two years, the Whitney presents the Biennial—an exhibition of what’s new in contemporary American art. This time around, the Whitney invited three curators from outside the museum to organize the exhibition. After a lot hard work and many discussions, the curators picked 103 artists. The Biennial has taken over the whole Museum. You’ll see and hear art in all kinds of unexpected places—the stairs, elevator, as well as in the main galleries on floors two, three, and four. Each curator was given a floor to install works with the artists they chose for the exhibition.

It’s your turn to be an art critic. As you visit, see which floor or artwork you like best! Think about how it is different than other art you’ve seen before.

Support for the Whitney Guide is provided by Microsoft.
