Michelle Grabner: Donelle stretches the idea of how we think about authorship. 

Narrator: Curator Michelle Grabner on Donelle Woolford.

Michelle Grabner: So we have Joe Scanlan―I think a quite brilliant artist who lives here in New York―one of his projects is Donelle Woolford. Donelle Woolford is an African American artist. She has her own career. She has her own gallery. And on the fourth floor, Donelle is represented by two Dick Joke paintings. And these paintings poke at a lot of things. They poke at the idea of the name Dick itself, but then how it’s referenced. The idea that Dick is a word that we use for men, men in general, and also a body part, but then also perhaps Richard Prince, who’s known for his joke paintings as well. So Donelle is interesting. She’d kind of a take-no-prisoners artist. She will kind of punch at things in front of her. And she’s powerful that way.
