House III (Study), c. 1997IMAGETK

This drawing relates to a series of large-scale House sculptures, which Lichtenstein began developing in 1996. Like the Pyramid works on view across the gallery, the sculptures play with the viewer's perception of whether a three-dimensional form projects or recedes into space. The first in the series was fabricated in 1997 and debuted at the Venice Biennale that summer. The works on view here are studies for an additional sculpture, which was ultimately fabricated posthumously.
