For kids of all ages

Welcome to Whitney Kids Art Club! Join Whitney educators each week to complete a new artmaking project inspired by current exhibitions. Our programs aim to reach a neurodiverse audience with a wide range of learning styles and developmental stages. Tell a friend and join the club!

The sculptor Simone Leigh draws from a variety of sources—including traditional West African adobe structures, American domestic architecture, and craft—to explore ideas about the Black female body, race, beauty, and community. Her sculptures suggest the presence of figures—powerful Black women. This week, we will look closely at the building traditions that inspire Leigh. Then we will create imaginary architecture in honor of someone important to us!
