In his book The Philosophy of Andy Warhol, the famed Pop artist recorded his morning routine: he would prepare his breakfast—“peppermint tea and a dry, medium-to-dark English muffin with marmalade”—and then spend most of the morning talking on the phone. While not a reenactment of Warhol’s daily rituals, these sessions, each focusing on a different aspect of Andy Warhol's art, give participants the unique opportunity to take a closer look at his work during early morning hours, when the museum is closed to most visitors.
Join noted art historian and Pop art scholar Michael Lobel in studying some of Warhol’s most iconic subjects, including Marilyn Monroe and Campbell's soup cans, at one of the year’s most highly-anticipated exhibitions.
Each session explores a central theme in Warhol’s practice and participants are welcome to register for individual sessions or for the entire series.
Instructor: Michael Lobel is a professor of art history at Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY. His writings include three books, numerous exhibition catalogue essays, and articles for such publications as Artforum, Art in America, and Art Bulletin.
