The artist Cauleen Smith creates works of art that speak out against injustices such as racism and police brutality. Smith designs her large, hand-sewn banners to either hang from the ceiling or to be carried in processions as a means of inspiring change. She says, “I think that art might be the only thing at this point . . . The only thing that could create conversation and dialogue or reconciliation or mediation.”
