Torkwase Dyson is a visual artist based in New York. For her Monastic Residency, Dyson’s primary action will be to reconstruct the ware boards, using the raw material as fodder for her own new works. Dyson will invite friends to the space to critique and photograph; over the course of her residency, authorship is challenged as the material sheds its status as a personal object.
This event is one in a series of "monastic residencies" organized by 2010 artist Theaster Gates, who will collaborate with academics, artists, and street musicians in the Museum’s Sculpture Court throughout the duration of the Biennial.
This event is free with museum admission; no special tickets or reservations are required.
