All members

The Whitney is open late—just for members! Celebrate with fellow supporters and enjoy everything the Museum has to offer. In addition to gallery access, the evening includes Whitney teaching fellow-led exhibition talks, members-only dining and shopping, and more.

All members are invited to this event. The invitation is for two individuals per membership household. Members at the Dual level and above are welcome to arrive at 7 pm for early admission. Not open to corporate and reciprocal members.

Event Schedule

Drawing and Sculpture Workshop: Grant Wood
Floor 3, Susan and John Hess Family Theater

Join artists Stina Puotinen and Mark Joshua Epstein for a collaborative experience that explores facets of Grant Wood’s art—uncanny rural scenes; surreal objects made from found materials; and the interplay of depth, flatness, and pattern. Make a drawing or sculpture then add it to a large-scale installation that reimagines Wood’s landscapes as an immersive environment. Drop-in and first-come, first-served.

Artists and curators Stina Puotinen and Mark Epstein are currently organizing project for the Woskob Family Gallery at Penn State University that uses the idea of the waiting room to explore responses to current political realities. Though they maintain distinct solo practices, their collaborations use humor, pattern, and a variety of visual languages.

Critical Looking: Gendered Subjects

Teaching fellow Aliza Shvarts will lead seminar discussions focusing on women artists in the Whitney’s collection who have used their practices to challenge relationships of subjecthood and objecthood in both art and politics. We’ll discuss works by Louise Bourgeois, Elizabeth Catlett, the Guerrilla Girls, and others, as well as the larger issue of the underrepresentation of women artists in arts institutions.

Nick Mauss: Transmissions—Dance Performance

In Nick Mauss: Transmissions artist Nick Mauss presents live dance alongside objects from the Whitney’s collection and those of other institutions that reveal the intersection of American modernist ballet and New York’s artistic avant-garde. Dancers will be in the exhibition space throughout Member Night.

Walk through the central gallery of An Incomplete History of Protest: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1940–2017, and then turn right to find the gallery titled Spaces and Predicaments.

No One Exists Alone

Meet in the central gallery of Where We Are: Selections from the Whitney’s Collection, 1900–1960, which explores themes of family and community.

Drink, Dine, and Shop

Head to the Studio Cafe, on the Museum’s eighth floor, to savor delicious drinks and shareable small plates. All items are available for purchase a la carte; last call in the Studio Cafe is 9:30 pm. Still hungry? Untitled, located on the ground floor, will be serving dinner all night—make a reservation. Drink tickets may not be used in Studio Cafe or Untitled.

Cash bars serving wine and beer are located on the ground floor and in the third-floor Theater Gallery. Last call for cash bars is 9:45 pm. Drink tickets may be used at the cash bars.
