The Whitney is open late—just for members! Celebrate with fellow supporters and enjoy everything the Museum has to offer. In addition to gallery access, the evening includes Whitney teaching fellow-led exhibition talks, members-only dining and shopping, and more.

Brendan Fernandes: The Master and Form
Floor 5

The Master and Form by Biennial artist Brendan Fernandes is a sculptural installation activated by ballet dancers. The artist has likened the project to S&M culture with its “emphasis on trust and confidence within a space where roles of mastery and submission are in play.” Throughout Member Night dancers will perform within the installation, undertaking overt displays of tension and discipline.

Laura Ortman
Floor 3, Susan and John Hess Family Theater
8, 9 pm
In these performances Biennial artist Laura Ortman (White Mountain Apache) showcases the range of her practice as a composer, musician, and visual artist. She will play two thirty-minute sets within an installation she is creating, which is on view before and after the performance. Space is limited; first come, first served.

ARTMAKING

Drop-in Watercolor and Drawing: Deep Color Experiments
Floor 3, Hearst Artspace
Join artist and educator Jaqueline Cedar and explore how geometry and contrasting colors interact to create depth and materiality. Paintings featured in Spilling Over: Painting Color in the 1960s by Helen Frankenthaler, Alvin Loving, and Kenneth Noland will serve as touchstones. Drop-in; concludes at 9:30 pm.

Critical Looking Seminar: Singular Practices, Collective Voices

We often imagine artists as exceptional, working in isolation. Yet Biennial artists Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Elle Pérez, and Christine Sun Kim use art to frame their relationships to queer communities and communities of care of which they are a part. Teaching fellow Aliza Shvarts will lead a discussion addressing the question: In what ways can an individual art practice articulate a collective voice or demand?

All members are invited to this event. The invitation is for two individuals per membership household. Members at the Dual level and above are welcome to arrive at 7 pm for early admission.
