For The Mirror Stage—a Multimedia Performance, Leslie Dick takes Jacques Lacan’s essay on the Mirror Stage and superimposes it on the imaginary stage of Martin Kersels’s installation. Misrecognition is a key principle here: the idea that knowledge is always detoured through wishful thinking and mistaken identity. Using projected images, both still and moving, and other special effects, Dick exploits Lacan’s vivid scientific sampling and proliferation of metaphor to unfold the extravagant implications of these ideas.
This event is one in a series, Live on 5 Songs, curated by 2010 artist Martin Kersels, whose sculpture, 5 Songs, leads a double life as a stage for performance throughout the duration of the Biennial.
This event is free with museum admission; there are no special tickets or reservations required.
