Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents: The Charles Turner Quintet

A smiling African American vocalist with his head slightly turned and eyes shut radiates joy. The vocalist is wearing a pin-striped blazer without a shirt underneath and has a braided updo slightly framing his face. He is posing with a multi-colored bedazzled microphone in one hand and the other is in an artistic hand gesture.

For all ages

Step into a world of music and art inspired by Harlem’s vibrant culture! Join Jazz at Lincoln Center for a special kid-friendly summer concert inspired by the artwork Gettin’ Religion by Archibald Motley in the Whitney’s collection. A pioneering African American painter known for his modernist style, Motley captured the essence of the Harlem Renaissance in this piece.

Experience the legacy of the swing era with vocalist Charles Turner, who will perform vibrant bebop, swing, and blues music. After the concert, engage in artmaking activities inspired by the painting.
