The Blooming Colors

Floor Three, Susan and John Hess Family Theater

Jenny Perlin collaborates with pianist Adam Marks on a new performance exploring the history of synesthetic experiments. Using three different color scales drawn from the history of the color organ, Marks translates Perlin’s silent film Twilight Arc (2016), currently on view in Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art, 1905–2016, into music. Marks employs three different color and pitch scales: Louis Bertrand Castel’s eighteenth-century scale, inventor Alexander Wallace Rimington’s scale from the nineteenth century, and twentieth-century pianist and composer Alexander Scriabin’s scale. To accompany Marks's work, Perlin has created new visuals exploring historical blueprints, correspondence and drawings related to the phenomenon of synesthesia, a near-mythological and elusive aesthetic experience.

Ticket holders are invited to a special viewing of the exhibition Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art, 1905-2016 from 6:15-7 pm.

Tickets are required ($10 adults, $8 members, students and seniors).
