A Black woman and man sit on a couch, in front of a low cofee table. They are seated in a grassy area, with a couple of trees behind them. In the far background is a road with a white wall behind it. The words "warning shots not required" are written on the wall in black letters, and there is a small crowd of Black men in blue uniforms around this area of the wall.

Be among the first to explore Henry Taylor: B Side during five full days of Member Previews.

Henry Taylor: B Side is the first exhibition to survey the career of leading contemporary artist Henry Taylor (b. 1958, based in Los Angeles). Featuring over 130 paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installations, from the 1980s to the present, this retrospective celebrates an artist widely appreciated for his unique aesthetic, social vision, and freewheeling experimentation. Though renowned for his portraits, populated by friends, relatives, strangers on the street, athletes, politicians, and entertainers, Taylor’s work encompasses many genres and moves through influences. Within this stylistic diversity, his attention to Black Americans and the various conditions of Black America comes into focus in ways that are deep-feeling, witty, joyful, and concerned.

During this time, members also enjoy Preview access to Fragments of a Faith Forgotten: The Art of Harry Smith.
