Drawing Workshop with Emilie Louise Gossiaux

Sun, July 26, 2026
1–3 pm

The drawing shows a pale blue background made of pencil strokes. Scattered across the entire surface are many small, yellow, five-pointed stars, irregularly spaced, with a single small blue moon near the upper left. On the left side of the composition, a nude figure with short brown hair and eyes closed floats upright as if suspended in midair, facing right. On the right side, a dog figure floats upright, facing left, with eyes closed. Extending between their figures is a long, pale, horizontal form connecting them.

Floor 5, Neil Bluhm Family Galleries

As a visual artist who is blind, Emilie Louise Gossiaux creates works based on dreams, memories, and their sense of touch. They bring their inner worlds into the physical world through drawings, ceramics, and sculptural installations. This program invites participants to learn about the artist’s process and experiment with tactile drawing techniques. It begins in the galleries with an overview from the artist about their work in the Whitney Biennial 2026, followed by a drawing workshop where participants create tactile drawings.

The program is designed for visitors 16 and older. No prior experience is necessary; practicing artists who are interested in learning about accessible techniques are encouraged to join. All materials will be provided.

Special thanks to the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library.

For all accommodations, please email accessfeedback@whitney.org or call (646) 666-5574 with two weeks’ notice. Blind or partially sighted visitors are also welcome to join us for a special Whitney Descriptions with Emilie Louise Gossiaux on July 19.
