This edition of the semiannual breakfast features an engaging conversation between Adam D. Weinberg, Alice Pratt Brown Director, and curator Barbara Haskell.

Since joining the Whitney’s staff in 1975, Haskell has shaped not only the Museum but also the broader field of American art. Her past Whitney exhibitions include the landmark surveys The American Century: Art & Culture, 1900–1950 (1999) and BLAM! The Explosion of Pop, Minimalism and Performance, 1958–1964 (1984). She has also organized retrospectives and authored monographs on Grant Wood (2018), Stuart Davis (2016), Georgia O’Keeffe (2009), Agnes Martin (1992), and Marsden Hartley (1980), among many others. In 2003, she was awarded the Lawrence A. Fleischman Award for Scholarly Excellence in the Field of American Art History by the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.

Haskell’s upcoming exhibition, Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925–1945, explores the profound influence Mexican artists had on the direction of art in the United States.
