Open to all ages

In celebration of Pride, visitors of all ages are invited to join Shifting Landscapes artist Dalton Gata for a joyful day of dress-up and drawing! Create a wearable work of art representing a unique part of your identity. How can clothing express our culture, who we are, and where we come from? Explore an array of materials and accessories to express your personality through costume and creativity.

Feel inspired? Strike a pose and hold still while others draw your look! Then grab a pencil and try sketching someone else’s ensemble. What parts of your personality are you expressing? What unique qualities do you see in others? Let your imagination lead the way!

June is Pride Month, which centers the LGBTQ+ community and its history. Pride started as a political march in 1970 one year after the Stonewall Riots. During these riots, the LGBTQ+ community fought back and protested against police who raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City (a mere fifteen-minute walk from the Whitney). Pride now takes place all over the world and creates space for the LGBTQ+ community to feel safe, welcomed, affirmed, and celebrated.
