Whitney Museum Second Floor (Kaufman Astoria Studios Film and Video Gallery)

As part of the 2014 BiennialAcademy Records will present two works running simultaneously in the Film and Video Gallery. The Bower, a film loop of cherry trees in full blossom, will play continuously over the three-hour audio work No Jets, a field recording of the flight path to Chicago's O'Hare airport during the first few hours of the flight delay after the September 11 attacks. The audio captures the weighty absence of a sound that city dwellers had come to experience as mere background noise. In many cultures, the fleeting blossoms of cherry trees have symbolized the intensity and ephemerality of life—an allusion echoed by the moment captured in No Jets.
