Sock Sculptures

Claes Oldenburg recreates ordinary objects in unexpected ways by changing their size and what they are made of. He has transformed all kinds of everyday objects, including home and office appliances, food, clothing, and musical instruments. The bread, bacon, lettuce, and tomato in the soft sculpture titled Giant BLT are made of vinyl stuffed with natural fibers, and are much bigger than a usual sandwich.

Take a good look at Giant BLT. Then, transform ordinary materials into your very own soft stuffed sculptures.

Materials:

  • A large grown-up’s sock
  • Scissors
  • Rubber bands
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Sharpies and paints
  • Fluff, cotton balls, or bits of fabric for stuffing
