Brian O’Doherty: Hopper’s Windows

As one of Edward Hopper’s few lifelong friends, artist and author Brian O’Doherty made a film that captured the overwhelming silence, not only of the spaces and characters in Hopper’s paintings, but also of the artist himself. For this evening program, O’Doherty discusses Hopper’s Silence and the film’s origin: a rare TV interview he secured with the mysterious artist. O’Doherty explores Hopper’s enigmatic scenes, his use of windows, and how the artist “was mysterious even to himself.”
