Amy Sherald: American Sublime | Exhibition Trailer

June 11, 2025

In the words of Rujeko Hockley, exhibition curator for the Whitney's presentation of Amy Sherald: American Sublime: "the sublime is thought of as this feeling of being overwhelmed by nature, overwhelmed by an experience, overwhelmed by a work of art. For Amy, so much of what she thinks about is the beauty and the range and the vastness of the American people."

Amy Sherald: American Sublime is on view on the 5th floor of the Whitney Museum, from April 9 through Aug 10, 2025. The exhibition is organized by San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. This exhibition is curated by Sarah Roberts, former Andrew W. Mellon Curator and Head of Painting and Sculpture at SFMOMA. The presentation at the Whitney Museum of American Art is organized by Rujeko Hockley, Arnhold Associate Curator with David Lisbon, curatorial assistant.
