Alvin Ailey and Me: Renée Robinson

Feb 5, 2025

Renée Robinson, who danced with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as a member of the company from 1981 through 2012, spoke with us about her time with the company and working with Alvin Ailey. She discusses dancing with AILEY for 30 years, how Alvin Ailey would always encourage the dancers to go to museums, and what it was like to see the Edges of Ailey exhibition knowing how much museums meant to Mr. Ailey. We are thrilled to share a powerful project, Alvin Ailey and Me, that celebrates the enduring legacy and influence of iconic dancer, choreographer, and artist Alvin Ailey. Alvin Ailey and Me asks members of the public to share personal stories of how Alvin Ailey’s life and work has impacted, inspired, and changed them.
