Seminars with Artists: Nari Ward

Nari Ward salvages abandoned materials from the urban landscape to create sculptures and installations that deal with issues of consumerism, poverty, race, and politics. Using such objects as television sets, oil barrels, strollers, garbage bags, and glass bottles, Ward’s pieces conjure a sense of place, history, and experience. At this program, he turns to the relationship between material culture and collective memory.

Since the early 1970s Seminars with Artists has provided a forum for intimate conversations with some of the most notable American artists of the day. This spring, the series takes its cue from works on view in the Museum and engages questions of site specificity, space, and place, broadly defined.
