Narrator: This exhibition has been organized in conjunction with a performance by the artist Dave McKenzie.
Dave McKenzie: I will be doing a performance called Disturbing the View which will take place over the course of several weeks, where I will be interacting with the facade of the Museum.
Narrator: Dave McKenzie.
Dave McKenzie: In particular, I will be covering and maybe uncovering the windows. The performance will essentially be me... I want to say something between cleaning and dirtying the windows and removing the view, or in my case, I would say disturbing the view. I'm trying to put my body in relationship to what happens when a Museum goer looks out and maybe is expecting to see a beautiful vista. I want to interrupt that.
Narrator: The works on view in this gallery have been selected because they relate in different ways to McKenzie’s performance. Some of these works were made by McKenzie himself, others by artists he admires.
Dave McKenzie: A lot of the works that I'm showing and that are also being placed in relationship to the work, are ones that I think have a beautiful mix of architecture, body, and maybe the fragility of that sense of being in between something, or maybe negotiating something.
Narrator: More information about McKenzie’s performance can be found on the Museum’s website.
