Cecil Weekes, 1956-2013

Jan 28, 2014

Before his unexpected passing in August, Cecil Joseph Weekes served as a guard at the Whitney Museum for thirty-three years. His mother, Patsy, also worked as a guard at the Whitney, and was responsible for introducing him to the Whitney family. This video pays tribute to Cecil in the words of his colleagues, and documents a memorial service, held at the Whitney on October 25, 2013, in which the Museum dedicated the purchase of a permanent collection work by Elizabeth Catlett to his honor.
