Whitney Stories: Jay Sanders

Jan 8, 2015

January 2015: Jay Sanders joined the Whitney as Curator and Curator of Performance after co-organizing the 2012 Biennial. Since then he has delved into the Whitney archives, which contain photographs and ephemera from performances dating back to the 1960s: Cecil Taylor, Trisha Brown, Lucinda Childs, Bruce Nauman, and Philip Glass are among the artists represented. In this Whitney Stories video, Sanders recalls the Museum’s history of presenting performance alongside visual art, and illuminates plans for the Whitney's new home, including its 170-seat theater space.
