Introduction to Jeff Koons: A Retrospective

0:00

Jeff Koons: I'm Jeff Koons, and I'm very excited to be able to have this opportunity to share some of my thoughts about some of the works that I've created over the last three and a half decades.

Scott Rothkopf: I’m Scott Rothkopf, The Whitney's Nancy and Steve Crown Curator, and curator of Jeff Koons: A Retrospective. This is the first exhibition to survey the full scope of Koons’s work, from 1978 until today. In this program, we’ll talk about his experiments with readymade, mass-produced objects, and contemporary technology. We’ll examine the ways in which Koons has blurred the boundaries between fine art and consumer culture. And we’ll talk about how critics have reacted to Koons’s exploration of sexuality, kitsch, celebrity and other sometimes controversial subjects at the heart of his work.
