2014 Biennial artist Dawoud Bey, along with art historian and curator Sarah Lewis and scholar Imani Perry, reflect on the role of art and photography in the visualization and construction of race, memory, and history. Taking a cue from the artist’s Birmingham Project, this roundtable discussion explores the ways in which the black subject has been represented in Birmingham, Alabama and other areas of the South during the Civil Rights Movement.
