Narrator: Find a place to stand in the lobby. Close your eyes and listen to the sounds you hear around you. What do you notice? Look up! The artist Sergei Tcherepnin transformed eight different lights in the Whitney’s lobby into speakers, so that different music comes from each one. Together they make a musical composition! Sometimes it is silent, so it doesn’t make the guards and museum staff crazy, but it should be on most of the time. He wants to make you more aware of the space you are in.
This is the artist, Sergei Tcherepnin.
Sergei Tcherepnin: You don't necessarily look up all the time, but if you do, you might notice that they kind of look like UFOs. They're interesting lights that were part of the original design of the Museum.
