The Whitney invites disabled and non-disabled visitors to experience the richness and complexity of American Art. Shifting Landscapes considers a more expansive interpretation of the landscape genre , exploring how evolving political, ecological, and social issues motivate artists as they attempt to represent the world around them. Drawn from the Whitney’s collection, the exhibition features works from the 1960s to the present and is organized according to distinct thematic sections. - The exhibit contains multiple video and sound works, which creates a consistent hum throughout.
- As you enter the gallery across from the elevator bank, a large sculpture by Amalia Mesa-Bains is placed on the floor. This work is low to the ground and is not meant to be touched.
