A child enthusiastically holds up a stick controlling a dragon shadow puppet, which casts a large, vivid silhouette onto a brightly lit surface. The child appears to be roaring playfully, mimicking the dragon's pose, while the scene is illuminated with dramatic, colorful lighting, creating a vibrant and imaginative atmosphere.

Get dressed up and celebrate Halloween at the Whitney! Embark on a surreal scavenger hunt through the galleries and join Whitney Educators for a fun-filled day of artmaking. Little ghosts and goblins will create their own surreal scenes and contribute to a giant cadavre exquis (exquisite corpse), inspired by works in The Whitney’s Collection: Selections from 1900 to 1965.

Halloween Weekend at the Whitney is an inclusive and safe celebration for all. In that spirit, we do not allow costumes that perpetuate cultural appropriation, discrimination, or violence of any kind, including fake weapons. We invite you to be inspired by the works in our collection and check out the #IAmNotACostume campaign to learn more about choosing a respectful costume.
