Sotheby’s second Contemporary Curated auction (on March 7) aims to engage art enthusiasts and collectors, both seasoned and new. The sale will feature a strong selection of both postwar and contemporary art. Highlighting the morning session is property from the collection of Abby and B.H. Friedman, the novelist, and author of biographies on Jackson Pollock and Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. B.H. Friedman, known to his friends as Bob, also served as a trustee of the Whitney Museum of American Art, from 1961 to 1978, and was one of the first individuals outside the immediate Whitney family to serve the Museum in that capacity. The afternoon session includes examples of art by some of the most influential and visionary artists of today, including Glenn Brown, Mark Grotjahn, Carol Bove, Lucien Smith, and Hugh Scott-Douglas. During this exclusive preview and tour, Head of Sale Courtney Kremers will explore the significance of individual pieces and share insight about engaging with contemporary art in the context of the secondary market.
